Nótt, daughter of Nörvi, is the personification of night in Norse mythology. Every night, she will ride with her horse Hrímfaxi over the sky, the morning dew dripping from his bridle. In Alvísmál (Elder Edda), Þór asks Alvís what she is called in the different worlds:
She is black and dark, contrasting with the light and fair Dagr who follows her every day with his horse Skinfaxi, his bright mane shining with daylight. According to Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál she is the mother of Jörð (Earth) and thereby grandmother of Þór (Thor).
